Do Banks Replace Ripped Notes

If you have a bill that’s ripped in half, tape the two halves together and take the bill to a bank. You may want to skip this step altogether because I’ve spent taped bills more than once with no issues. Anyway, if you do decide to take your taped bill to the bank make sure the serial numbers on both sides of the bill match up. The Reserve Bank works with authorised deposit taking institutions (ADIs) and cash centre operators to remove damaged banknotes from circulation as soon as practicable. The Reserve Bank provides a Banknote Sorting Guide to assist.
